"While He Was Blessing them, he Withdrew from them and was carried up into heaven and they worshipped him." We celebrate the Ascension of our lord!Religion- This Sunday is the Ascension of our Lord. This week students will hear the Gospel reading that explains the Ascension of our Lord and will reflect on what Jesus means when he tells his disciples they are witnesses. Students will write about how they can fulfill the role of being one of Jesus' witnesses in our world today. Here is a link that students can visit to read more about The Ascension of our Lord and engage in some learning activities related to this special feast. Literacy: Last week, students completed the writing of their Hot Air Balloon Adventure narratives and also explored the features of a written letter. This week our focus in Literacy will be on reading some persuasive narratives and other non-fiction persuasive texts, for students to learn how to create a persuasive paragraph using a variety of writing techniques (e.g. persuasive words, tugging at the heart strings of the reader). Math: In Math our focus continues to be on linear measurement. Students have been working on solving questions involving calculating the area and perimeter of various objects, as well as comparing the area and perimeter of different figures. Next, students will be putting their "Proportional Reasoning" skills into action to solve questions that will require them to think about the relationships between centimeters and meters and meters and kilometers (100 cm=1 meter, 1000 meters=1 km). During our Math warm ups, we will continue to add money amounts and find the difference between money amounts and will explore mass and capacity as well.
Science: This week, students will begin to read, record and wonder about plants through reading a variety of texts about plants, their needs and their uses. We will then gather in a knowledge building circle to share out some of the new knowledge students built through "Reading, Recording and Wondering." Drama- We have quite a few blossoming actors and actresses in 3A and 3B! Students enjoyed acting out their favourite scene from the narrative "Pirate Lee.." Students also had the opportunity to put their skit on Green Screen. Any students who have not yet finished their skits will have time to do so this week. Last week, students also enjoyed a drama activity called "Wax Museum" where they had to transform themselves into a "wax figurine" depicting different emotions, activities, animals etc... Health: Late last week, students were introduced to an important personal safety and injury prevention topic- Prescription and Non-Prescription Medications. Students heard about the differences between the two and heard about important safety tips to remember about Prescription and Non-Prescription medications. This week our focus will be on decision making when dealing with difficult situations and scenarios both at school and around the community. Education Week: It was wonderful to see so many of you come and take part in our Catholic Education Week Open House, where we celebrated "Opening the Doors of Mercy." We are sure you enjoyed passing through the stations in our classrooms and learning about how your child uses technology on a daily basis to support and deepen their learning! Thank you for your enthusiastic participation in your child's learning! Comments are closed.
