It's hard to believe we are entering into the final week of the month of March! Time flies when you're on an exciting journey of learning like we are! Here is a short outline of where our journey will be taking us this week. Religion: Students will hear the Lenten Gospel from this past Sunday where Jesus heals a blind man. Students will reflect on the message of this Gospel. Last week we explored the Ten Commandments and this week we will explore the different ways in which we many break these commandments and how we can always ask God for forgiveness when we are sinful. He always forgives us when we lose our way!
Math: Last week students were engaged in several collaborative, rich geometry learning tasks using the vertical learning spaces we have. Their collaboration, character, critical thinking and communication skills were put to excellent use. The special visitors we had from the Ministry of Education were very impressed by the work our grade three students were doing! This week we will complete a few more investigations with 3D shapes and will then begin to explore how to calculate the area and perimeter of both regular and irregular shapes. Welcome back from March Break! We hope that all students enjoyed a restful break. We are now ready to continue on our journey of learning. Here is a quick look at how our week will look. Religion: This week students will hear the Gospel from this past Sunday where Jesus speaks to the woman at the well. Students will hear the story of Cain and Abel and be introduced to the Ten Commandments. Math: Students will be engaged in "On Your Own" activities where they will need to critically think about everything they have explored in our 2D and 3D geometry tasks. Following this we will begin to investigate the area and perimeter of different shapes. Literacy: This week we will begin a focus on narrative texts. Students will hear a variety of narratives and we will discuss the "must-haves" for a narrative text. Science: This week we will explore ways to make structures strong and stable through Indigenous stories. This will link well to what students are learning in French-Social Studies and what they are learning in literacy about narratives.
Here's a great link to Khan Academy. The video explains quadrilaterals. It teaches the difference between parallelograms, rhombuses and trapezoids. It also has some information on right angles.
