Religion: Today we lit the third candle of our Advent Wreath- the candle of Joy! We are reminded of the Joy that Jesus brought to the little town of Bethlehem when He was born that cold, dark night in the stable. Students will be reflecting on how they will bring the Joy of Jesus to others, as well as reflecting on how people in their lives bring them joy. We can't thank you enough for the generosity you've shown with sending in beautiful items for our Advent Hampers! We filled two giant bags for our hamper families. It is certain we will bring joy to this special family this Christmas. Thank you for being the GOOD NEWS! We wish you and your families a holy and Merry Christmas! Here is a little Christmas prayer to enjoy as a family! A Gift For Jesus Jesus, I want To give you Something very Special for your Birthday, for you are The Saviour, the Light of the World, the King of all Nations. I want to give you wonderful Gifts like the Wise Men gave: gold Frankincense and myrrh. But I have Nothing special to give you. And so, I Will give you what I do have: I will smile At you today by smiling at a lonely classmate I will talk to you today by visiting my elderly Neighbour. I will listen to you today by paying Attention in class. I will love you today by doing all My chores. This week students will hear the Gospel from Sunday and will reflect on The Angel Gabriel and Mary as we continue on our Advent Journey. Tomorrow we will light the second purple candle of Peace and will celebrate another Advent liturgy together. Students will write about how they will spread God's peace throughout the rest of the Advent season. All of you are welcome to join us as we gather as a school community for our Advent Mass, on Tuesday, December 12th at 9:30 AM in our gymnasium. On Monday, December 18th our grade three students will be leading our next Gospel Value and Grandfather Teaching Assembly for Hope and Courage at 2:30 PM in our gymnasium. Our grade three community will be singing a beautiful song. All are welcome to attend! Thank you to all of you who have already sent in your child's donation to our Advent Hamper. Our Advent Project On Friday, your child. received a note about our school-wide Advent outreach project stating the item that they wish to bring in to contribute to the hamper that we will put together for another family within our school board who are need. Students are very enthusiastic about this project and seem so eager to contribute in order to restore a family in need at Christmas time. Should you be in a position where you have 'more to spare' this Advent season, please feel free to send in anything you think our family in need would appreciate. Our Family (Mrs. McCuen, Mrs. Brownrigg and Mrs. Sullivan's Classes) consists of: mom, dad, Boy 15, girl 13, boy 12, boy 10, girl 9, boy 7, boy 5 and boy 4. White Elephant Sale Our Grade 6 students at St-Cecilia will be running our 5th annual White Elephant Sale on Friday, December 15th, 2017. We will be happy to accept donations of gently used, clean items anytime now up until December 14th. Categories include: books, toys, CDs, movies, puzzles, games, Christmas knickknacks, jewellery (no used earrings please), crafts and household items. We will not be accepting clothing, footwear or stuffed animals. Last year this was a success due to the excitement of the students as they found bargains to bring home and the generosity of the families who took the time to find items at home suitable for our sale. With the help of teachers and parent volunteers, the students do the work of collecting, sorting, pricing, and selling items that have been donated. Students are invited to bring a loonie or two from their allowance to purchase and wrap items. Grade 6 students help the younger students shop and it is always fun for everyone. The Grade 6s are very excited about this initiative and it is a wonderful leadership opportunity for them. You never know, mom or dad might even get a Christmas gift from this amazing sale.
