The season of Advent is upon us! This season offers us many opportunities to explore our need for hope, peace, joy and love in our lives! Let us journey in faith through this holy season! Religion: This week we will gather for a short prayer service as a grade three community to celebrate the first week of Advent. We will light the first candle on the Advent wreath and think about the ways in which we can prepare our hearts for the birth of Baby Jesus on Christmas Day. Students will hear the Gospel reading from the first Sunday in Advent and will also listen to a story about the Prophet Isaiah. Students will reflect upon the important role that Isaiah played in the Christmas Story. Literacy:

Welcome to the last week in November! Here is what we will be up to as November draws to a close! Religion: Last week our focus was on Bully Awareness and Kindness. This week students will hear the Gospel from Sunday which was the Feast of Christ the King! They will learn what this feast is all about. This Sunday marks the last Sunday in Ordinary time. Next weekend we will enter into the holy season of Advent! Advent Hampers Our school's Advent Project is beginning. We are supporting families who need us to "be Jesus' hands here on earth" and to spread joy this Advent Season. A list will go home of ideas generated from your child to help support this venture. Should you be in a position where you have 'more to spare' this Advent Season, please feel free to send in anything you think our families would appreciate. A food card will be given to them from Parent Council so we are looking more at small gifts to bring joy this Advent Season. Donations are due: December 11th Mrs. Brownrigg's Class - Girl 12, Boy 10, Boy 7 and Mom and Dad Mrs. McCuen's Class - Girl 11, Girl 11, Boy 13 and Mom and Dad On Friday, December 6th, we are having a St. Cecilia Christmas Cheer Day. For a small donation, children can wear their most festive clothing to show our true St. Cecilia spirit. It is time to dig out those reindeer antlers, Santa and elf hats, red and green clothes and Christmas accessories! All donations will go towards the Christmas hampers.

It is hard to believe that we are now journeying through the month of November, but we are! Time flies when you're on an exciting journey of learning like we are! Here is how our week looks like at a glance! Religion: Last week students explored the history of Halloween and its link to All Saints and All Souls Day. They listened to short biographies about Canadian saints like St. Marguerite D'Youville and St. Andre Bessette and how each of the saints devoted their lives in different ways to do the work of Jesus on earth. This week, students will continue to learn more about the mysteries of the rosary and will examine how to pray the rosary . Students will hear the Gospel from Sunday where Jesus meets Zacchaeus who is up in a tree trying to catch a glimpse of Jesus. Although Zacchaeus is a tax collector, Jesus invites himself to stay with Zacchaeus and changes Zacchaeus' life forever!
