That is how our week looks at a glance! Our exciting journey of learning continues and we are enjoying every step along the way!
Religion: Sunday is Good Shepherd Sunday. This week, students will listen to the Gospel of John where Jesus explains how he is the Good Shepherd and we are his sheep.. Students will reflect on all of the thing that they can do to follow the "Good Shepherd" in their everyday lives. Since this week is Earth week, students will also celebrate all of God's creations by writing Earth Week prayers. Hope Project: Many students are close to completing their "Beacons of Hope"research and are now ready to share out some of the information that they have found out about people and organizations who bring hope to others. This week, students will begin planning their hope projects and we will also brainstorm ideas for our class wide hope projects. Such an inspiring inquiry! Students are really learning deeply about hope. Literacy: Our literacy journey this week will see us continuing to focus on reading texts and responding to questions about the texts using details from the text and ideas of our own. We will also focus on paragraph writing about various topics. Through a writer's workshop station from last week, we can see that students need some more practise with writing paragraphs that include a catchy lead, a few juicy details linked to the main idea of the text and a closing that ties the paragraph together. Students will be engaged in literacy station activities where they will have the opportunity to read short paragraphs and highlight the main idea and supporting details and will also write a few short paragraphs on topics of their choice. Math: This week students will continue to work on transformational geometry activities. Last week students worked in partners to show how pattern blocks or letters translated, reflected or rotated. Next we will focus on linear measurement where students will explore how to measure objects using standard and non-standard units of measure as well as to find the area and perimeter of various shapes and objects, Science: Students continue to work enthusiastically on their purposeful structures with their partners.. Next students will evaluate their collaboration skills and character skills that they used during this collaborative Science task. Physical Education: We have now completed our focus on basketball and students have enjoyed playing four on four basketball games to practice their basketball skills and learn about offensive and defensive game strategies. Over the next couple of weeks, students will work on improving their physical fitness through a variety of fitness stations that focus on cardiovascular, strength and endurance type exercises. Drama- Through the narratives that students will read this week, students will choose a scene from one of their favourite narratives to create a tableau for. Students are just beginning to learn about the "must-haves" of a tableau (a focal point, high, medium and low levels, should look like a photo in a photo frame). We briefly practised tableau formations for different sports in gym the other day in small groups. Earth Week: Below is a link to a recycling plastic bags initiative that we are focussing on at St. Cecilia during Earth Week. Please view and contribute if you can. Also remember that every Wednesday is "Waste Free Wednesday." Please remember to do your best to send your child with a litterless lunch each Wednesday. Plastic Bag Recycling Challenge We hope you have a wonderful week! Thank you for all that you do to support your child's learning each and every day. God Bless!
