Literacy - Continued focus on author's purpose and author's message - Recounts (we will post our anchor chart shortly
Mathematics: This week we will focus on: Math Talks - building our strategies for adding numbers in our head. Ways to Represent Numbers - click on title for ideas
Literacy:
Focus Recounts Author's Purpose (WHY author's write: PIE - to persuade, to inform to entertain) and Author's Message (WHAT - What did the author 'mostly' want you to know) Students are learning to answer in complete sentences: I think the author's message was to be kind to others. I think that because in the text Sam was kind to his neighbour and in the end they became friends. Oral Communication Students are learning how to 'piggyback on their classmates thinking', how to rephrase what others are thinking, and how to paraphrase the thinking of others. We're thrilled to report that we had a successful first week back to school with our new grade three students! Students were busy thinking and sharing their learning right from day one. Our first rate grade three students seem ready for a year full of wondering, exploring and growing as learners! In order to get our classroom routines and classroom criteria established, students reflected upon what some of our daily routines should look like, sound like and feel like. We recorded all of their ideas onto "Y Charts" which are now hanging in our classrooms for all to see. Even though it was just the first week back, we had many deep learning conversations and students were turning and talking to their learning partners to share their ideas across all subject areas. We want our students to know that their voices and their ideas are valued!
That is a quick glimpse into what we have done so far and what we will be up to on our journey of learning next week.
It is our absolute pleasure to be partners in your child's Catholic education with you! Our Journey Begins! Our journey of learning in grade three is off to a great start! Today students made valuable contributions during the creation of some of our Y Charts for various daily routines. Students heard about "The Five Steps To Good Listening" and reflected on how important it is for all of us to think about four important words before we act and speak "What Would Jesus Do?" in order for us to "Be The Good News" to all of those in our midst.
We are truly blessed and thankful for the opportunity to be a part of your child's grade three journey of learning. We're off to an amazing start and look forward our time together this school year! God Bless 3A and 3B! Here is our 3A/3B Classroom prayer. God Be God be in my mouth in the words that I am speaking. God be in eyes in everything I see. God be in my hands in the actions I am doing. And God be in my heart to love my neighbours and my friends. |
