We are hoping that you all enjoyed a happy and holy Easter with family and friends..We are so blessed to be able to spend fifty days celebrating the Lord's resurrection together. The Easter story truly is a story of hope that we get to live out each and every day through our faith. Religion: Students have been working so diligently on their Holy Week narratives through the eyes of Jesus. They are putting a lot of effort into including details about how Jesus felt as he journeyed to the cross and tomorrow and throughout the rest of this short week, they, will complete their narratives by writing an entry about the Easter segment of the Holy Week Story. Literacy: In Literacy this week, students will finish their Holy Week Narrative writing and we will also read some other narratives in order to put together a success criteria list for what students need to include when writing both personal and fictional narratives. Math: Last week students explored the attributes of 3D shapes through an activity called visit and record. Students used the attributes to they learned about to describe 3D shapes. They know that in order to describe a 3D shape in a detailed manner they must tell about the number of vertices, number of edges, number and types of faces, the name of the shape and whether it is a pyramid or a prism. This week students will create riddles for 3D shapes using attributes and will also compare 3D shapes to one another. Science: During a learning conversation last week, students brainstormed some of the famous structures they know about from all around the world. Students were also introduced to some new famous structures. This week students will explore some of the forces that act upon structures and will have an opportunity to research a famous man-made structure, as well as a structuremade in nature and report back to the class on their findings. Hope Project Thank you so much for sharing our Hope Padlet link with family and friends locally and globally. It is inspiring to read about others' ideas about hope. Last week students finished reading ,discussing and reflecting on famous hope quotes and short stories of hope. Students were also busy creating their very own inspiring hope quotes. This week our goal is for students to choose a person or organization who brings hope to others that they will learn deeply about, That is how this short but engaging week of learning looks like. Enjoy the short Easter video below as a family! We hope that all students enjoyed their March break! We are excited to see them and get back to our learning journey! Religion: Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week as it is Palm Sunday. This week students will hear all parts of the Holy Week story and will write a narrative like diary through the eyes of Jesus about all of the events that he experienced in the last few days of his life on earth. We will also reflect on how these events bring faith and hope to our lives now. Literacy/Hope Project During Literacy stations the week before March Break, students had the opportunity to read short stories about hope and quotes about hope that we sent to them in their Google Drive. Some students even began developing their own "hope" quotes. Students also viewed a video clip from a newscast and had to discuss with a learning partner about whether the clip they viewed was an example of hope or not. They recorded their thoughts and opinions on a Padlet. These Literacy tasks are of course linked to our inquiry about Hope. We are getting students to think deeply about what hope means. After having completed these "Hope" literacy stations, students were asked to think about people or organizations in our community or around the world who bring hope to others. The list that they brainstormed was amazing! It is clear that they are starting to develop a deeper understanding of what hope means. Our next step in our journey is for students to research a person or organization they feel brings hope to others or to the world around them and they will write a brief biography about that person and present it using a technology tool of their choice. They will also reflect upon why or how that person inspires them. The last part of our Hope inquiry will be for students to embark on a Hope Project of their own. Students will plan out their Hope Projects with two questions in mind- Who will I bring hope to? How will I do that? At the end it is our hope that students will be able to be the author of a personal narrative about their hope project. We cannot wait to see how this evolves! Please help us with our inquiry about "What Is Hope?" by asking friends and family both locally and globally to upload photos and words to our Hope Padlet. All you have to do is to give them our website address and ask them to visit the button entitled Hope Padlet on our homepage. From there, they can upload pictures and words. We only have a few samples posted and would love to see many more examples of what hope looks like to others. Math: This week in Math students will engage in activities such as "Visit and Record" to practise describing the attributes of a variety of 3D shapes. Students will also create 3D Shape Riddles to use with learning partners during the barrier game, where they would share the riddle with their partner and their partner would then try to guess which 3D shape is behind the barrier. Lastly, students will use palindromes to explore and create the nets of 3D shapes. Science: Students will have an opportunity to share some famous structures that they know about during a conversation circle and will learn about some other famous structures from around the world. When looking at these famous structures, students will be asked to share their observations about the shapes and materials used to build these structures. Student Passwords: For security reasons we have updated student logins for our classrooms. Student Passwords are now s+student number. So if my student number was 123456 my password is now s123456. Students from both our classes will now need to use their new password (s+student number) in order to login to our board sites and their Google Drive.. For security reasons I have updated student logins for my classroom. Student Passwords are now s+student number.
So if my student number was 123456 my password is now s123456 Mrs. McCuen will let you know when she has updated her class passwords. On Friday, March 11th wear your Lenten team's colour (that's blue for us) and bring in a Loonie to help further support our Lenten Project. Here's a video to watch:
