Welcome the last week of May and the first week of June! We are so very proud of the effort that our students have been putting into the Math and Literacy questions they have been working on during EQAO. The feedback we have received from students is very positive. They are truly seeing EQOA as a time to "Show What They Know on EQAO!" We know they will continue to put their personal best effort into the EQAO tasks that they will complete from Tuesday to Thursday of this week. They are putting the character and critical thinking skills that we've been focused on as school community to excellent use! They continue to make us so proud! Religion: Today marks the day that we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension. Last week students began to research the events that took place on the Feast of the Ascension and are in the process of sharing out what they have a learned using a variety of digital tools. This week students will finish up their research and "sharing out" about the Feast of the Ascension" and will begin to learn more deeply about the Feast of Pentecost. Once again, they will share their newly acquired knowledge in a variety of ways either digitally, through drama works or with pencil and paper. Students thoroughly enjoyed the research time they had to learn about The Feast of the Ascension and from what we have seen, they have found many creative ways to communicate and share out their new faith filled learning. Literacy: Last week students heard some persuasive texts and were able to identify some examples of how author's use the "tugging at the reader's heartstrings" technique in their persuasive pieces. This week students will work to incorporate this technique into their persuasive writing pieces. Another literacy focus for this week, will be in the area of Media Literacy, where we will explore different types of media and think critically about the messages that they are sending us. Students will learn to be "Media Wise." Math: Students will complete a Probability "Show What You Know" and will also have an opportunity to create some probability games of their own with learning partners. We will also continue with our Daily Drills where students respond to a variety of questions from all strands of Math within our curriculum. Science: Using a Hyperdocs, students will engage in some more activities that explore the different forces they have begun to learn about through read, record and wonder activities. Health/Physical Education/Drama: Tomorrow we are hoping to bring students outdoors to engage in some track and field events (ball throw, relay races, standing long jump and running long jump). On Tuesday students will hear a presentation from our Public Health Nurse about safety with medication and legal and illegal substances. We will be linking Health and Drama when students will use "refusal strategies" learned through "Decision Making" lessons in the short dramatization of role plays linked to making "Healthy Decisions." That is how our week looks at a glance. Thank you for all that you do to continue to support your child through the last leg of their grade three learning journey!

The students will listen to the story of The Good Shepherd and further understand how Jesus is our shepherd who guides us, protects us, cares for us and forgives us. We are his flock. Students will think critically about the "Good Shepherds" in their lives aside from Jesus and will take time to reflect on what these people do to be like the Good Shepherd. Literacy This week the students will continue to develop their narrative writing skills! Mini Lessons on leads, run-on sentences, words to use instead of said and quotation marks will hopefully be put to good use during writing this week. Stations will include reading and writing about Bear Witness, working on Google Docs to further students' editing skills, reading narratives including fables and using voice when reading quotations! We will also model and remind students about how to write paragraphs! Many students are confusing paragraphs with narratives. Therefore we will be looking at some paragraphs and narratives and comparing them using a venn diagram to help students better recognize the difference between these two types of writing. If your child is done his/her EQAO package have them write a paragraph about a topic of interest to them. We are noticing that students need more practise with creating paragraphs that include a catchy lead, juicy details in the middle and a closing sentence that ties the details together. Soon, we will begin a unit on persuasive writing and persuasive texts!
