It is hard believe that the month of April has arrived! We anxiously await the arrival of spring weather! While we wait, we have a lot of learning to do to keep us busy! Here's what we will be up to! Religion: As we journey through the fourth week of Lent students will continue to move through their "Lenten Road Map" and will hear the Gospel from this past Sunday where Jesus shares the Parable of the Prodigal Son. Students will reflect on times they have needed forgiveness and times that they have given forgiveness. Last week we had our Lenten Project launch assembly! We are working as a school community to "Seek Justice" for those who battle the threat of malaria around the world, most especially in Africa. Thank you to all students who have already "shared what they can spare!" Between our two classes we have already collected enough donations to purchase five mosquito nets! Below is a link to the slideshow presentation students viewed at our assembly led by our amazing grade six leaders! Let's continue to work together to "End the Threat!" Literacy: *Reading and Writing Fables *Media Literacy- Book Creator- Famous Structures *Story Beginnings *Word Work- Homonyms review *Dialogue *Reading Comprehension- Ms. Mitra - EQAO Reading Our Amazing Narrative Beginning One sunny day as I entered the zoo I peered into a cage. To my surprise I saw a women giving a monkey food. All of a sudden I heard screaming. Math: *Mental Math *Daily Drill *Area and Perimeter- On Your Own Check-ins *Measurement- Relationships between units of measure- problem solving (1metre =100 cm, 1000 metres= 1km, 10mm=1 cm) Science: Last week students were bridge engineers as they engaged in a STEM challenge to build strong and stable bridges for Nanabush and his fish to get across the creek. They used all of the 6C's and were problem solvers who were eager to make changes to improve the designs of their bridges! This week they will focus on their research of their "Famous Structure" and will work to share out their findings using "Book Creator." Physical Education and Health: *Basketball skills and drills *4 on 4 basketball *Social Emotional Wellness- Review of strategies to cope with stress- (Students will create a toolbox of tools they feel they can use to help them if they feel stressed.
Religion: This Sunday marks the third week of Lent. Students have been busy coloring in their "Lenten Road Map" daily and completing their "Loving Through Lent" egg that displays all of the ways that they are showing love throughout their Lenten journey. This week students will hear the Gospel from this past Sunday where Jesus teaches using the "Parable of the Fig Tree." Students will reflect on how they can grow closer to Jesus through acts of love. Students will also hear some Lenten stories from our Growing in Faith, Growing In Christ program. Learning About How to Control Stress Thanks to Mrs. Stanton we are learning all about our brain and stress. Below is a video we saw last week. This week she will return to teach us strategies to help us when we feel stress.
Mathematics
The season of Lent is upon us! Students will explore the traditions behind Shrove Tuesday and will begin their Lenten journey on Ash Wednesday with a Liturgy in our "Holy Gymnasium." They will receive the holy ashes and will reflect upon what they will choose to do during their journey through Lent in a Lenten Promise. Students will also hear the Gospel from this past Sunday and reflect upon the message within it- "Can the blind lead the blind?"
Skating Our last day of skating is on Thursday. We will begin our walk over around 1:50 and hope to be in the change rooms just before 2! Thank you for all those who are volunteering. We really appreciate your help! Music
