Next Week: Winter Carnival Day and Kindness Week
Choose to be Kind!
St. Cecilia's Annual Cake Walk The text below is from Parent Council: A Cake Walk is a very fun event for the children, teachers and the many volunteers who make it happen. Families donate treats (baked or store-bought), or games, crafts, candy, books, etc. which in turn are raffled off. All treats must be nut and sesame seed free! Children purchase tickets for the Cake Walk with the help of their parents by using School Cash Online between January 29th and February 6th. On the day of the Cake Walk, all of the donated items are set out on tables in the gym. Class by class, the children walk through the tables and decide on which donated item/s they are interested in. Each item has a baggie and the children put their tickets in the bag attached to the item(s) they hope to win. Once every class has walked through, we draw a winning ticket for each item. The winners’ names are called and our volunteers deliver prizes directly to the classrooms. Although students are not guaranteed to win, they will all have a fun and exciting time! In addition, no student is allowed to win more than once so if a child’s name is drawn more than once, the first prize stands and the rest are redrawn. This is always a fun day for everyone! The best thing is that all of our children can participate and everyone has a chance to win!

We are hoping that you all enjoyed a blessed Christmas and Happy New Year with family and friends! 2020 is here and we are ready to continue on our journey of learning throughout this new calendar year! Here is what we will be up to on our first week back to school in 2020! Religion: On Monday, we will celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany through scripture readings and reflections. This week, students will also reflect on gifts they can bring to Jesus throughout 2020, just like Magi did so many years ago when they followed the star to Jesus' manger to bring him special gifts.

The season of Advent is upon us! This season offers us many opportunities to explore our need for hope, peace, joy and love in our lives! Let us journey in faith through this holy season! Religion: This week we will gather for a short prayer service as a grade three community to celebrate the first week of Advent. We will light the first candle on the Advent wreath and think about the ways in which we can prepare our hearts for the birth of Baby Jesus on Christmas Day. Students will hear the Gospel reading from the first Sunday in Advent and will also listen to a story about the Prophet Isaiah. Students will reflect upon the important role that Isaiah played in the Christmas Story. Literacy:
